Useful

I use this app all the time. It is quite useful. Many new updates make it work a little better.

Simple & elegant, but missing just 1 key capability

Its just a timer. It does one thing, but it does it very well. You can create an arbitrary number of independent timers (but without the ability to name the timers, youll probably never use more than a few at a time). Each timer can be customized in a few ways: - Appearance (4 "themes" available) - What it should do when the timer completes (play a built-in alarm sound and optionally repeat, start playing iTunes, stop playing iTunes and optionally sleep the Mac) - Whether the window floats or not I like the little flourishes in the app. When you create a new Timer, it drops from the top of the screen and bounces. When you close it, it fades away. When the timer goes off, the window shakes like an angry alarm clock. Minutes provides convenient keyboard shortcuts to: reset/start the timer; set the timer to 1, 3, 5 or 10 minutes; add/remove a minute. There is just one key capability that I need that Minutes does not have, and that is the ability to pause the timer. If you click on a timer that is running, it will reset it.

Timer is simple.

Nice and simple timer. Just like a kitchen timer. Although it would have been nice to be able to label the reason for using the timer each time you use it rather than just having the alarm go off. That way it could be used to remind you to do a specific action.

Question/Comment

I was wondering whether it is possible to type labels on these minutes? If so, pardon my ignorance but could someone explain how it is done? If not, that would be a great feature to add to this wonderful app.

Love it, but..

This is a very useful idea, but would be great if we could label the timers for different events...Update for that next time, please!

Good, simple timer.

Ive used this timer since it was a free Dashboard widget, and its definitely worthwhile. However, three things would make it perfect: 1. The ability to label timers, as other reviewers have mentioned. 2. A visual notification that time is up. 3. The ability to choose different alarm sounds. Even without those, this is well worth 99¢!

I love this little app!

The Minutes timer always sits on the upper right-hand corner of my screen. It is an elegant little device. I use it constantly to limit time reviewing email, checking news, talking on the telephone, and writing reviews for apps. Personally, I dont think it needs labeles for each use, as some have requested. I can remember what Im timing, and its quicker without them.

Simple and easy to use, but needs improvements

I often want to work on a task for a pre-determined number of minutes. Minutes is great at setting timers for that purpose. I can think of two improvements. First, it would be nice to be able to label your timers (i.e. "Design work for Client X" or "Muffins"). Second, Id like to be able to minimize the timers. I often do not want to know how much time is left for a particular task. I just want the alarm to go off.

Very basic, cute interface

I like the simplicity of this app -- its about as easy as using a kitchen timer. A few things I would recommend for the next version: * A choice of alarm sounds with ability to preview them, like iPhone alarm. * If you click anywhere in the round white face, OOPS! you just reset the alarm. Thats not good. Make it a double-click. * Add a button to create a new alarm so I dont have to do it through the menu. * More styles/colors would be nice too. All in all, though, Im happy with my purchase!

Good, simple, very useful.

Works as advertised. Small footprint and "always on top" option makes integrating it with your desktop a breeze. The default alarm tone is fine, somehow modern Nintendo-like. Would be nice to have alternates with a preview. Also, maybe a black one, brushed aluminum, translucent, or green one. How about the standard system color-picker to choose a color? Was what I was looking for, though. -b

Nice little timer!

I really like the keep on top feature in this little timer. I have it slid into the corner on my screen, out of the way, but clearly visible. I do have two feature requests: 1. I wish I could pause the timer without reseting it. It would be handy for when the phone rings and I have to take a quick break from my work. 2. It could be just a tad smaller, or perhaps resizable. Thanks for your good work on this!

Great little app

Minutes is a great timer app. It makes setting the timer easy, having multiple alarms easy, and is good about getting out of the way OR staying on top of all windows. Some things Id like to see: -Different sounds for the timer -App-specific alarm, maybe a way to set it so all other system sounds are muted and the alarm app can play on its own -Similarly, a way for the volume to scale up gradually -An option to keep the alarm sound repeating until you click on the window I really enjoy using Minutes, and I know itll just get better with each update. Thanks!

Perfect timer

Its suprisingly difficult to find a good timer for timeboxing. However, this one seems to be nearly perfect. Its simple, you can have multiple instances, and its unobtrusive. One suggestion, add an option for a ticking sound.

Handy

I use this kitchen timer app often. And presto theres more - just drop another one down with a different color. If I want to limit my sons time on the PS3, this timer is handy.

I wanted a widget, but I got a desktop cr-app.

I used to have this as a desktop widget that ran in the background and was awesome. But when I reformatted my system I lost the download file and hunted online extensively to find it was in the app store and no longer a widget. Its not as user friendly as a desktop app vs. widget. This makes me sad and not like living anymore.

I love this timer, always have.

I used the widget for years, recently bought an imac and couldnt find the widget anymore. Luckily it is now an app. It works great, looks great. Id love to see it reduced to the menu bar though so I can keep it running all the time...

.3 to .4 % cpu use when idle

One thing I look for in a utility Im thinking of keeping constantly open is how much cpu it uses. A small, low footprint app shouldnt be using any cpu when idle. This app does.

It does what it says Excellently. But...

You can set many timers at one time. Nice They will play your Itunes. Nice They will stop your itunes. Nice Its low cost. Nice The only drawback is the fact that it only works for 6 hours. WHY? If they just reset one line of code they could make it an 8, 10, or 24 hour timer. And you could use it as an alarm clock for waking up in the morning. I wonder how many customers they are losing by doing this?

Good app

Minutes is a straight forward app for timing things. I use it every day as a timer and it works well for it. I appreciate the simple interface. Things I’d like to see: stays on top of other windows, specify other alarm sounds without forcing me to open iTunes, and customizable presets for time. If you are looking for a basic timer that doesn’t do those things but is simple and a pleasure to use, look no further.

Beautiful Application

This is great software. Elegant and minimal, and super-easy to use. The "show always in front" option really makes the app. What a deal!
