Minutes App Reviews

cute, useful, few caveats

If you use a font manager, be sure Arial Rounded is activated otherwise the central number is teeny tiny. Nice interface, very analog feeling. I wonder if mouse-wheel support could allow the timer to be adjusted that way too. I agree about the ticking option and custom ringtone being nice to have in the future.

Alarms - No titles

forget about the 99 cents ... its not about the money-thats not the point. This is a simple app (even if it were for the iPhone) at best which is its best attribute. If you have two or three alarms floating on the desktop, you should be able to label them. Who knows whats what with out being able to name them - important omission. Please fix this and then I would give you 3 stars for a simple but useful program and then 2 stars for the label feature ;)

Timer

Very good timer. Two suggested improvements: Add the ability to change the length of time the alarm sounds. Add seconds.

Simple, easy to use, perfect application

I really like this application. I just needed something very simple that I could use to time myself and ensure Im not sitting 10 hours in a day working. Also, great for client timers/etc. I like this app.

Simple. Visually informative and pleasing. Really great!

Great little timer. Not overly complicated and gets the job done. The way I use it: I have a lot of distractions while Im trying to work. I use a couple of these timers to set a block of 15-30 minutes (or whatever) of working time. The timer is always in view and seeing a working block of time counting down helps me to focus on the job at hand. Similarly, I set one for breaks so I dont run over. A five minute timer is perfect for checking email and RSS feeds. Since the timers are visually distinct, I can see adding ones for things like reminding me to get up and away from the computer every hour or to make sure Im drinking enough water, etc. For the way I work, these are super useful. Glad I saw this reviewed in Macworld.

Good Pomodoro Timer!

This app is very cute, convenient, and reasonably priced. When youre adjusting the clock timer, it shows you what time itll be when the timer goes off (awesome!). The fact that it works with iTunes is just the sweet, juicy cherry on top. Im using this as my Pomodoro timer, and its great! I highly recommend it!

used to like Pester, now this is king

Really enjoy this app. Id like to be able to type in the time i want instead of winding it up, but thats not a huge deal. It would be awesome to have some integration that lets you set a time for an ical event so you can see a countdown to next events. regardless of those few issues, this is a great app, works well, looks great and fills a need.

Best timer!

Minutes timers not only look great, they work great. I cant tell you how many times this thing has helped keep me productive. Three things I would like to see--and would even pay extra to have--are the ability to pause timers then restart, to name timers, and to close and reopen Minutes and have all my timers (including their names) saved. I love this program!

Simple. Effective.

This is a very basic timer, but the fact that it countsdown and shows an analog arrow is great. It also repeats and thats ideal. Its a solid .99 app. Ive found it useful as a general reminder alarm. Something that rings every :15 and I log where my attention is at that time. Very handy.

Helps keep me on track

Minutes is a simple app and thats what I like about it. I keep a few different timers on screen and I just click on the timer that suits the need: 5, 15, or 30 minute. It keeps me on task, and the timers remind me get back to work or start a new task. Some of the other reviewers additions would be helpful but I do enjoy its effective simplicity.

Good

looks good and works as it says

perfect.

couldnt ask for me. I love this app. I use it all the time to time things where i used to use my phone. Bread in the over? start up minutes. I am using it right now to time some pork belly in the oven. So simple, clean, and intuitive.

Simple and fantastic!

Finally, someone adds gestures and good design to a simple timer!

Very Easy To Use Timer

This is app is a super easy to user timer. You just pull it up, drag the arrow hand around to however many minutes you need and youre set.

…almost great

I downloaded this paid app to use as a simple countdown timer. What I like: The simple design, acts like an Apple widget and is small, it floats and is movable, the alarm chime, it doesnt sit in the task bar (personal preference so that I can see it better), there are four colors to choose from (but you cannot label the individual timers), it doesnt slow other computer processes down, and has the ability to create multiple timers. This timer is great if you want a timer with a pull-down menu with pre-set times. What I dont like about it: Adjusting to a specific time if not listed in the pre-set list, requires adding one minute at a time with the pull-down menu or by a simple key combination. There is only one alarm sound (its really nice, but there is only one). The timer resets itself if you press, or accidently press the main white area of the timer — this feature might be good if you were using it for a repeating task but is annoying otherwise. Cool addition: This app allows users to play an iTunes playlist (not a big deal since iTunes plays them) BUT if you have to be stealth-like at work, nobody will notice that your iTunes icon is activated. Also: My intuitive behavior wants to double-click in the white center, not to reset the time, but to adjust the time. Perhaps a double click brings up hour and minute time touch-spin dials. If that isnt something the maker wants to go with then perhaps a setting that turns off the "automatic reset" from hitting the center white portion. Four Stars if you add the time adjustment and add more alarms (or tell us where they are) and Five Stars if you add all of that plus labels and make a setting to make it transparent.

No Retina Display Support

The app doesnt look very good on Retina Displays, but otherwise does its job well.

Its simple

My only concern is that this app has not been updated since like 2 major releases of the OS ago. Now its crashing everytime I switch from external monitor (in clamshell) to the laptops. Im not asking for updating for updating sake. But for instance theres no support for retina display. So a quick update will solve the applications problem.

Software no longer runs in Mavericks

I love Minutes, and have relied on it many times, however after running the software since 2011, I am disheartened to see the developer has abandoned the software. After OS X 10.9 was released, I began to see behaviors where i would set the timer, switch over to full screen to work on a keynote document and the alarm would never go off. It turns out many “countdown” timer apps in Maverics have the same issue - they are not properly updating themselves in the background. I have emailed the developer to point this issue out, but since I never heard back from them my only remaining step is to warn others not to use this on OS X 10.9.

Simple and beautiful but doesn’t keep accurate time

This is a great looking and easy to use timer. I love using it. It is NOT an accurate timer. Set the timer for an hour and you’ll find that it after an hour that it will have only clicked down, say, 40 minutes.

Terrible App

This app doesn’t appear to run in the background, or it seems to dramatically slow down. I have a timer for one reason, and that is to keep time. If it can’t do that, I have no use for it.
